Attendees of a Yuga Labs’ ApeFest event in Hong Kong have reported experiencing burns, damaged vision, and extreme pain in their eyes. They believe these issues were caused by improper lighting at the event. Some attendees who were up close to the lighting display on the main stage reported these symptoms. At least 15 cases of vision damage have been reported on social media. The attendees suspect that the UV from the stage lights was the cause of their eye problems. This is not the first time such issues have occurred at an event in Hong Kong. In a previous incident in 2017, attendees at a party organized by streetwear brand HypeBeast also experienced burns and eye damage due to improper UV lighting. The lighting contractor had used light bulbs that emitted high levels of UV-C radiation. The symptoms reported by the attendees align with a condition called photokeratitis, which is caused by prolonged exposure to extreme levels of UV radiation.
