OpenAI’s CEO has announced the upcoming release of GPT-4.5 for Plus tier subscribers, which is set to launch next week. This new model represents a significant advancement in AI technology, designed to provide users with high-quality advice and insights that resemble a conversation with a thoughtful individual.

However, the launch is currently constrained by GPU availability due to a shortage stemming from rapid growth. To address this issue, OpenAI plans to enhance its GPU inventory by adding tens of thousands next week, with a vision for hundreds of thousands in the near future. The CEO acknowledged the challenges in predicting growth surges that lead to such shortages.

While GPT-4.5 may not perform exceptionally well on traditional benchmarks, it is recognized for its unique intelligence, which has a “magic” quality. This release is a crucial step in OpenAI’s roadmap, marking GPT-4.5 as the final non-chain-of-thought model before the anticipated integration of various technologies in the upcoming GPT-5. This future model will offer tiered access across free, Plus, and Pro subscriptions.
